Couples Therapy

Move Together. Feel Together. Reconnect.

Every relationship has its own rhythm — moments of closeness and distance, harmony and misalignment, leading and yielding. Yet many aspects of connection live beneath words, in the subtle language of the body.

Couples Dance/Movement Therapy offers partners a gentle, creative space to rediscover one another through movement, play, and shared presence.

Drawing inspiration from Cuban partner dances such as Casino and Son, sessions invite couples into an embodied dialogue — a living conversation of timing, responsiveness, and connection. No dance experience is needed. There is no performance, no pressure, and no expectation of “getting it right.”

Only curiosity, exploration, and the experience of moving together.

In this 90-minute small group session, Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist Amanda Gill will lead 3-4 couples in Cuban social dance and movement therapy. Couples will engage in mindful, sensual touch, along with exercises to verbally process their individual and shared experience to enhance intimacy, positive regard, and relational awareness.

Goals of the session include;

  • Reawaken a sense of closeness and attunement
  • Experience new ways of leading and yielding while experiencing sensual touch
  • Rediscover joy, spontaneity, and shared play

Movement often reveals what words cannot — offering surprising moments of insight, tenderness, and connection.

Amanda Gill, LPC, BC-DMT currently provides couples therapy in military settings, drawing from the Gottman Method, Imago Relationship Therapy and Esther Perel’s theoretical framework. Through intertwining Cuban partner dancing in closed embrace, movement therapy exercises, psychoeducation, and verbal sharing, couples will explore the paradox of desire and security together. Couples will move together, feel together and connect with more vulnerability.

The Dance of Relationship

Cuban partner dance is inherently relational. It is a dynamic exchange of energy, attention, and trust — a continual flow of leading and following, listening and responding.

Within this playful and supportive process, couples may:

    • Reawaken a sense of closeness and attunement
    • Explore trust, balance, and mutual support
    • Experience new ways of leading and yielding
    • Rediscover joy, spontaneity, and shared play
    • Deepen emotional and nonverbal connection

Movement often reveals what words cannot — offering surprising moments of insight, tenderness, and connection.
